Unified modeling of cavitating sprays using a three-component volume of fluid method accounting for phase change and phase miscibility

In this study, a new three-fluid volume of fluid framework is presented in order to be used as tool for providing physical insight—in unified manner—to cavitating sprays and other complex multi-fluid, multiphase flows. The accounts phase change across sharp interface between two fluids (gas liquid) including miscibility the generated due (liquid vapor cavitation investigated cases) one existent (gaseous air). Systematic validation was performed over three cases. first case bubble rising test that an analytical solution two-phase system available. Comparisons based on previous results from tracking solvers against are presented. This then expanded by authors so third non-condensable gas with free-surface present. second further validate behavior. Finally, experimental comparisons were made more realistic orthogonal spray geometry captures different characteristics range flow intensities. predicted link subsequent jet formation highlighted. our knowledge, presents performance injection conditions covering turbulent flows (no cavitation) supercavitation.
